There’s no way around it, under our current campaign finance system the only way to make a successful run for office is to raise a bunch of money and buy advertising. I don’t like it, but until we reform the system, that’s the deal. (Click here to see my position on city election law and other issues .)

A winning race for Asheville City Council may cost $35,000 this year. About 500 people have already donated to the campaign (we’re still counting). Can you help?

Better yet, can you kick in each month? This button will sign you up for six monthly donations of ten bucks each. Two frappucino’s or two local pub brews a month from now through the primary to help the campaign. Will you join in a campaign to keep Asheville real?

  1. I have just read a smut paper put out by Cecil Cantrell ” Common sense in Government”. I’m very angry I want to help stamp out this smut. I want to organize a truth squad and stop this kind in political activity once and for all.
I recently moved to Asheville . I want to help in anyway I can. Please let me know how I can help!

  2. Mr. Bothwell,

I am a 67 year old resident of Idaho and therefore can not vote for you. However, I read about your campaign on friendlyatheist.com, checked your platform and sent a small donation that was limited by my fixed income.

I wish you the very best, and victory, in the upcoming election.

  3. Dear Mr. Bothwell,

You are a hero to me. I just read in the NY Times about the “supposed” outrage that you are an atheist. These southern, right-wing, religious fanatics have got to goooooooo!!!!

  4. I’m from Massachusetts and was just shown the NYT article online. I’ve donated and i hope H. K. Edgerton isnt able to cause you any trouble! To use and change his words, “I have problems with people who don’t let me not believe in god(s)!”
